My Friends,
We end another week. Time goes by and I’m sure it’s hard for many of us to remember just how long it’s been since we’ve seen our loved ones, our friends, our Church. It does seem like an eternity doesn’t it? Speaking of Church, you’ll notice that we now have music at Sunday Mass on our website. Our wonderful organist, Becilia, has graciously come to help enhance our celebration of the Mass. God Bless her!
In the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles, it says that Paul brought strength to all the disciples. The strength Paul received and was able to pass on to the others came from Jesus. Christ gives you and me that same inner strength to withstand anything that might come our way. All we need do is tap into this and ask the Lord to help us during these times of upheaval. We have what it takes because we have Jesus in our lives.
Stay well,
Fr. John
In today’s Gospel, the Lord tells His closest friends that they should ask His Father for anything in His name and He will give it to them.
Children ask their parents for many things, some of which are not good for them, some may even unknowingly cause harm to them. That’s why parents carefully decide what they should have and what they should not have.
The Lord doesn’t say to us - ask for anything and it’s yours. No He tells His disciples to ask in His name. The Lord knows what is good for us and what’s not.
All of us including myself would love to get everything we want. First of all, it’s not real and secondly, what we want may not be good for our well being.
All people want happiness and success but they want it on their own terms and in their own time. The Lord wants to give us what we need to be closer to Him which is really all that is important.
Christ wants to impart to us His joy as He tells us in the Gospel. Real Joy, happiness, peace comes to each of us when we align our wills and hearts with Jesus. We must put ourselves in His hands and He will give us all that we need to lead happier, holier Catholic lives.
May you and I ask in Jesus’ name, as people who want to be a holy people, for all that we need to peaceful, joyful, humble people who serve our God by serving others.
