Dear Friends,
We have not been together to worship and enjoy one another’s company since March 14. It seems as if the world were in suspended animation but unfortunately it’s the reality and the result of the coronavirus. This is a Lent we will never forget. We are a people in need of human contact and in need of something to satisfy our spiritual side.
I hope you are reading the Bible, saying some prayers, saying the Rosary or reading the lives of some of the saints- doing something that keeps you spiritually connected.
Sunday begins Holy Week, the most sacred time of the Church year. As you know, it begins with Palm Sunday, recounting Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This Palm Sunday we not only have no people in Church; we can’t distribute palm because of the climate we are in. So so strange but it’s reality! You can however watch Palm Sunday Mass in our Church (without people) on our website and you will be able to see Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday as well. Each Sunday that follows, you’ll be able to view Mass on our website.
There’s a song from yesteryear that says: “You don’t know what you’ve got until you lose it”. It’s so true to me. I certainly miss you, my people, and I’m sure you miss coming to Mass, receiving the Lord in the Eucharist and seeing your neighbors and friends. Hopefully with God’s help that will change sooner rather than later.
Lent makes us more mindful of those in need; I have already contacted a number of our vulnerable elderly people. If you know of anyone who is homebound, please let me know and we will help them. A number of our wonderful parishioners have volunteered to shop for those who cannot do it for themselves.
Need is something all of us feel especially during these times of upheaval. The Church is no exception . We need not only your prayers but your financial support. I pray all of you have not lost your jobs and can still work at least from home. If you can help us, please send in your envelopes, drop them off at the Rectory or sign up for Weshare on our website.
I want to thank all those who have already remembered the Church by sending in their envelopes or contribute online and ask them to please continue to do so. I sincerely appreciate your goodness in this time of great unknown and upset. You’re going through difficult times and so are we at the Church. Remember I say if you are able. Whatever you can do for us is appreciated.
God Bless,
Father John
